    The less appreciated Robusta is emerging alongside Arabica, a favourite of the Western speciality coffee world. Coffea Canephora’s main variety has traditionally been a popular raw material for commercial blends and a speciality of a few espresso enthusiasts. Robusta is grown in many coffee-growing countries, of which India and Vietnam are perhaps the best known. New processing and cultivation methods have allowed Robusta to gain popularity in the speciality coffee market. The variety’s resistance to climate change is also superior to Arabica, and this is leading to a change in attitudes towards Robusta. Typically, Robusta has a full-bodied mouthfeel and an intense richness of flavour, giving a long-lasting, thick creamy taste when used in espresso, for example. Robusta can also have up to twice the caffeine content of Arabica.
