Great coffee from the island of Sumatra! Full-bodied, slightly fruity, earthy and strong. Indonesian coffee production has a 300-year history, heavily influenced by the Dutch colonisation. After Indonesia’s independence, plantations were either taken over by the government or closed down. Today, Indonesia is the fourth largest coffee producer in the world. Around 92% of coffee production is in the hands of smallholder coffee farmers who produce coffee using traditional methods. This coffee is produced by the Koperasi Buana Mandiri, which has around 1 500 members, most of whom are smallholder families with less than 1 hectare of land. The unique dark greenish colour of the beans is due to a special processing method, the wet hulling method, known locally as Giling Basah.
