Kirjalan Kahvipaahtimo roasts coffee three times a week. Coffees ordered by 8.00 on Monday will be shipped from the roastery on Wednesday, coffees ordered by 8.00 on Wednesday will be shipped on Friday and coffees ordered by 8.00 on Friday will be shipped on the following Monday. Posti’s delivery time is 2-4 business days in Finland.

The caffeine in this coffee has been removed using the EA method. The coffee beans are sorted and steamed for 30 minutes at low pressure, which prepares the coffee for decaffeination by opening its so-called pores. The coffee is then placed in a solution of water and ethyl acetate. EA is a naturally occurring compound and solvent obtained as a by-product of fermentation. The solution binds to the salts of chlorogenic acids naturally present in coffee. The tank is emptied and refilled over an eight-hour period until no more caffeine is detected. The seeds are evaporated once more to remove residual ethyl acetate, although E.A. is harmful to humans only in very high quantities. Finally, the coffee is dried and packaged for freight.

When roasted dark, this coffee brings out stronger chocolate and dark grape flavours, and the sweetness is slightly lighter than in the light roasted version where you can find nougat, toffee, wild strawberry and nectarine sweetness.
