STORY:
In the southern Paraná region, the century-old Fazenda California coffee farm, once neglected, was revitalized by Luiz Saldanha and his wife, Flavia in 2004.
Until the 1960s, the Paraná region was one of the country’s most vibrant coffee-producing regions but due to terrible frosts and the rise of the major coffee regions up north, its production stagnated, leading many coffee farmers to move north, leaving their farms underdeveloped. But now, due to climate change, these regions have become attractive to farmers again, but hardly anyone saw its regained specialty potential.
Luiz’s vision and passion transformed the farm into a producer of award-winning specialty coffee, winning the Cup Of Excellence in 2010 and 2015. Fazenda California defied the odds, reclaiming its place as a source of the most remarkable coffee in Brazil.
