hint of licorice
Tanzania Burka Estate is an interesting coffee. It has a stronger acidity compared to Ethiopian coffee varieties. The roast needs to be boldly light so as to to bring forth the sweetness of the coffee. First, rhubarb comes forth in the taste. Following that there is a hint of licorice. The body is light and the mouthfeel could be described even as wine-like.
The Burka Estate is among the oldest coffee estates in Tanzania. It was founded in 1899 and it employs about 300 full time and 200 seasonal workers. Accommodation, healthcare and education of children are supported by the estate.
Biodiversity and respect for the environment were heeded in the farming of the coffee. The coffee bushes grow in the shade of trees, so that they can benefit from richer soil and receive natural protection from the sun.
