Costa Rica Red Honey
Tokado Coffee
Roaster: Naoki Goto
This coffee is by Naoki Goto, a world champion coffee roaster. His store is located in Fukuoka, far from Tokyo, but it is so popular that orders are pouring in from all over Japan. We are delighted to be able to bring his coffee to SLURP customers around the world. The traditional Costa Rican “honey process” dries the coffee leaving the sweet mucilage on the pulp. This is a gem from the Central Valley region. The honey is called “yellow,” “red,” or “black” depending on how much of the pulp is left. It is characterised by a concentrated taste, milky smoothness, and a gentle sweetness that is unique to the honey process. It is an easy-to-drink, well-balanced coffee with a sweetness accompanied by a savoury flavour reminiscent of caramel sauce, and a soft impression of both bitterness and acidity.
