You love your coffee, don’t you? Close your eyes and imagine a calm, beautiful morning. You’re brewing a fresh cup of quality coffee…and then… you add in butter and oil — just because you can! Ladies and gentlemen, introducing you to bulletproof coffee!

If you have followed any fitness or health trends over the past few years, you might have come across something called bulletproof or butter coffee. In short bulletproof coffee is regular coffee, and you just add some good fats to it. The good fats make your coffee more energy consistent, and in addition, the caffeine doesn’t absorb as fast as it normally would.

Butter coffee is a topic that seems to raise strong emotions in people, either against or for. Fitness gurus say your energy levels stay higher the whole day when you start the morning with butter coffee. Your digestion works better, hunger stays away longer and you have an extra energy boost when you go training. Everyone’s experience is personal, therefore remember to listen to your body to see if bulletproof coffee is your thing. If you haven’t tried bulletproof coffee, give it a go and then decide what you think!

What happens when you add fats to coffee? The consistency changes slightly. Coffee becomes creamier and foamier too — it’s pretty darn delicious. Ready to take on bulletproof coffee? Great! Read our guide below.

Which Fats to Use in Bulletproof Coffee

You can add any of the following to your bulletproof coffee:

  • Unsalted butter
  • Coconut oil
  • MCT oil
  • Ghee
  • Cocoa butter

Bulletproof Steps to Bulletproof Coffee:

  1. Brew a cup of coffee according to your brewing method. Don’t forget to use fresh quality beans!
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter and 1 tablespoon of MCT oil or coconut oil, or any other fat of your choice.
  3. Mix, let it foam a little bit, serve straight away and enjoy!

Dark and smooth coffees are an excellent fit for a creamy butter coffee. Try these coffees: the nutty and soft Colombia Sierra Nevada, the chocolaty and fruity Brasilia Fazenda California or the sweet and balanced Peru Amazonas.
