Tabe Burka Coffee Washing Station is a washing station located near the village of Ske Walakata in Ulaga, Gusi Zone, Oromia Region. The washing station is operated by Barukume, a company that is also an exporter. The owner and general manager, Tadesse Edema, has been involved in the coffee industry since 1995 and owns three washing stations and two dry mills for the production of specialty coffees. Barukume opened the Tabe Buruca washing station in 2008. It was the first washing station in the area, where there were no other washing stations nearby. The station has been supporting the coffee industry and livelihoods in the area, not only through coffee, but also through its social mission, contributing to the construction of schools and roads in the area. Today, a small group of about 300 producers living in five villages in the surrounding area (10-20 km) deliver cherries to Tabe Buruca. In order to produce high quality coffee, incentives are offered according to the quality of the cherries to motivate the growers and ensure sustainable coffee production.
